A Port from Taylor’s to Celebrate the Coronation

In order to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on 6th May, 2023, Taylor’s set aside a limited amount of Very, Very Old Tawny Port to be bottled as a commemorative limited edition. No indication has been made about the composition of this tawny blend, other than it is ‘very very old’. Suffice to say that ‘Taylor’s blenders have drawn on some of the oldest and rarest Ports maturing in oak casks in the company’s lodges in Oporto’. It is well knowh that Taylor’s are sitting on some magnificent and well cared-for old tawnies, some of which were acquired when they purchased Wiese & Krohn in 2013. I can’t find a retail price for this at the time of writing – it is priceless!

Taylor’s Very Very Old Tawny Port (to commemorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III) *****

Lovely deep amber-tawny with a olive-green tinged rim and a ruddy glow; very fine, lifted toffee and butterscotch aromas with a hint of spice emerging from the glass; wonderfully creamy – silky fruit with a cedar and spice character, retaining amazing verve, balancing richness (160gl residual sugar) and citrusy freshness in equal measure leading to a finish with supreme elegance and poise. A finely tuned blend on which it would be hard to improve: it is entirely fitting that this can be summed up as majestic! 20
