Taylor’s Victory Port

In order to commemorate the recent 80th Anniversary of VE day, Taylor’s launched their ‘Victory Port’. This is the first wine in the recently approved ’80-Year-Old’ category which now stands alongside 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10 Year Old Tawny as a permitted designation of age. Taylor’s have the advantage of having substantial stocks of old wine to draw on and the wine speaks for itself.

Taylor’s Victory Port, 80-Year-Old Tawny *****

Glorious mahogany colour with a glint of red, grading to amber-tawny on the rim; beautifully lifted on the nose, rich raisin and sultana fruit with a waft of roasted coffee bean and all-spice complexity; similarly opulent and mellifluous initially in the mouth, with seamless transition from quince and dried fig intensity to spicy complexity combined with a touch of savoury-creamy Brazil nut mid-palate. Long and suave with notable grace and freshness evident on the finish (remarkable for this elevated average age), perfectly poised overall and utterly magnificent. (PS It is priced at £450 - £500 a bottle). 20
