Graham's 1983 at The Saintsbury Club

Graham's 1983 was served at the Saintsbury Club Dinner in the Vintner's Hall on 18th October 2016. This is one of the best wines of the vintage, a year over-shadowed by 1985 until the latter threw up one or two rather nasty surprises. Still deep and relatively youthful in colour (although the 83's were never the deepest of wines); still quite tight knit on the nose, mid-weight with gentle and rather lovely cherry fruit and the firm tannins that were the hallmark of the vintage. Standing up and holding together very well after thirty three years: there is still another 10 - 20 years of life in this wine.  17 ****

19 - 20 An outstanding wine (*****)

17 – 18 An excellent wine in its class, highly recommended (****)

15 - 16 A good wine, with much to recommend it (***)

13 - 14 An enjoyable but simple, straightforward wine (**)

10 – 12 A very ordinary wine without faults but with no great merit (*)

8 - 10 Disagreeable (no stars)

Below 8 Faulty
