Fine, warm early summer sunshine after a cold April. The flowering is just commencing and, fortunately, stable weather is forecast. There are potentially huge yields on some of the new vines (planted in 2006 and due to crop for the first time this year). Some sort of green harvest looks likely. Yields on the Trincadeira on the other hand look low and bad weather now will be terminal for the crop. We spend the day feeding a mobile bottling line and by 6 o’clock we have 14,000 bottles of Pedra Basta 2007. Over dinner we drink a bottle of Pedra Basta 2005. It is still showing very well with lovely naturally sweet black fruit in a fine meld new oak without the over-ripe character that mars so many wines from this vintage.
