I speak to my elderly neighbours about the obras (building works) on the azinhaga. You would think that they might be grateful that the câmara are lavishing so much money on widening the only access to their houses. But no, they are full of complaints about how the lane should be wider and how the traditional granite walls (which are being rebuilt at my insistence) would look much better if they were built from breezeblocks! I notice that one of my neighbours has made the câmara tear down the rebuilt granite wall and replace it with one built from breezeblocks.
My Vineyard Blog May 2009
Fine, warm early summer sunshine after a cold April. The flowering is just commencing and, fortunately, stable weather is forecast. There are potentially huge yields on some of the new vines (planted in 2006 and due to crop for the first time this year). Some sort of green harvest looks likely. Yields on the Trincadeira on the other hand look low and bad weather now will be terminal for the crop. We spend the day feeding a mobile bottling line and by 6 o’clock we have 14,000 bottles of Pedra Basta 2007. Over dinner we drink a bottle of Pedra Basta 2005.
