Joseph James Forrester and His Maps of the Portuguese Douro
Joseph James Forrester was more than a winemaker, artist, pioneer photographer and botanist, he was also a surveyor and cartographer. His legacy, more than any of his other avocations, is his map making. His 'Great Map', The Portuguese Douro and Adjacent Country, is at once both handsome and rare. Like all great maps, it is historically significant as well. It can certainly be said that it is the crown jewel of Port literature and most worthy of bing reproduced in the spirit of the original.
